Body type determines the right swimwear. Your shoulders, breasts, waist, belly, hips, thighs and bottoms can be more defined with the right choice of swimwear style, color of swimwear, the print, kind of straps and the neckline. Below are the different types of Body type and the suggested Swimwear styles.

  • RECTANGULAR OR STRAIGHT BODY SHAPE– This is the common of all the body shapes. You know you have a straight body type if your hips and bust are the same measurement, waist is not defined, and probably have a bottom that is more flat than round.
    • WHAT TO WEAR: When choosing a one-piece suit, you should look for one in feminine prints and colors as they make your figure appear softer and more womanly. A swimsuit with angled stripes from the sides towards the centre front of your suits will create an illusion of a nipped waist. For a two-piece, ruffled or fringe tops with wide-set straps is a good choice. Ruffles gives the illusion of volume, and this make you seem curvier. Ruffled tops should be paired with a string bikini for a more defined waist.
    • AVOID: Bandeau style tops as it emphasizes your lack of upper curves, thereby, making your body look more boyish.
  • APPLE BODY SHAPE – You know you have an apple body shape ifyou have a larger bust than the hip section, undefined waist, round shoulders, and smaller hips.
    • WHAT TO WEAR: Ladies with these body type should opt for fabrics designed to help keep the stomach flat. One-piece suit with shirring down the sides and around the waist is another good option. Shirring pulls your waist in, thus making it look more narrow. Another way is by camouflaging your mid section with creative prints such as stripes.
    • AVOID: Big, billowy swimsuits as it adds more bulk to your body.
  • PEAR BODY SHAPE– Pear shaped women have greater hips measurement than bust measurement, nicely defined waist. The key is to enhance and add volume (or the illusion of volume) to your upper body while emphasizing your lower body to create a balanced, hourglass figure.
    • WHAT TO WEAR: Choose a padded or push-up top with wide set straps to balance your lower half. A swimsuit with scalloped neckline or v-neck is a good option. Deep neckline gives the illusion of cleavage, making your bust look fuller and drawing attention away from your hips.
    • AVOID: Skimpy tops should be avoided as it draws more attention to your bottom half. Also, bottoms that are too horizontal in cut or have too much coverage will make your bottom look bigger.
  • OVAL BODY SHAPE – Features of these body shape includes; a large bust, narrow hips, and a full midsection, an undefined waist with a tendency to gain weight in your stomach region. look for swimsuits that will define your waist and add curves to your figure.
    • WHAT TO WEAR: Tankini’s and one piece suits with hourglass prints are very flattering. skirted suits and swimsuits with wrap-style details will help to define your waist. always pair a light/ printed top with a bright colored bottom.
    • AVOID: Big, billowy tops as it adds more bulk to the body. also, never wear dark bottoms with a light/printed top.
  • HOUR- GLASS BODY SHAPE-LUCKY YOU! Characteristics of these body shape are; your bust and hips are well defined, a beautifully defined waist. You will look great in most swimsuits.
    • WHAT TO WEAR: Choose tops with straps that sit in the center of your well-balanced shoulders. Match unpadded tops with simple bottoms or padded tops with embellished bottoms.Bandeau tops are flattering on an hourglass figure. Simple bottoms should be paired with simple bandeau tops or embellished/ ruffled tops with embellished/ruffled bottoms.
